What Democracy University Is
Democracy University is building a new kind of institution for the people who do democracy work — an open digital university connected to a distributed network of local learning communities, practitioners, organizations, and real-world experience.
Meeting this moment requires more than good candidates. It requires people — organizers, managers, communicators, fundraisers, technologists, trainers — who turn democratic values into effective action. Campaigns train under deadline pressure, then dissolve. Knowledge scatters after every election. Relationships fragment. The next cycle rebuilds what the last one already learned. Democracy University is designed to change that.

The national backbone: curriculum, manuals, faculty, knowledge archive, community systems, technology, evaluation. Two-thirds goes to people — leadership, engagement, coordination, knowledge stewardship, and compensating the practitioners whose expertise makes this valuable.

Distributed Learning & Field Pilots
Two to three pilot learning communities that test how the backbone comes alive in a real place — a coordinator, a cohort of 25–40 learners, practitioner faculty, in-person sessions, field placements, and a culminating project.
