AB is based on three core principles that users of the framework should subscribe to. To stay consistent with our architecture metaphor, we call these principles Building Blocks of AB:
Adapt the Wheel Principle
Why try to come up with new ideas when good ones already exist that merely need to be adapted to new contexts? In an age where we’re becoming increasingly globally connected, it makes much more sense to find what’s working already than to reinvent the wheel.
Collective Wisdom Principle
As more individuals and groups collaborate by training and being trained to adopt/adapt proven program-models, those models become even stronger through the sharing of best practices and local innovations.
Balance Principle
The benefits of collaboration are maximized when there’s a proper balance of simple structure with flexibility. People need frameworks and guidelines to understand how to implement program-models created by others. However, if there’s not enough flexibility built into such frameworks, innovation will be stifled as people feel their main role is to take orders or only do things by the book.
